Fancy seeing you here

A month of second first impressions

Aha! Bet you thought you'd got rid of me x- I would say I'm sorry, but you've had almost a month of freedom so I was bound to return sooner or later. So, here I am- you're welcome.

So, as the title suggests, my newest set of pointlessly self centred rambles is all about my first impressions of my second uni {currently playing a game called "let's see how long I last at this one"}. So, in an attempt to once more appeal to those nosy few of you that frequent this page, I'm just going to throw it all out there because a lot has been running riot for the past month...

Firstly, the move took an age: the car was tiny, the drive was horrifically long {it's as if I expected a move to Wales to be a walk in the park}, and I was sicker than a very sick thing. That's right everyone, I got the flu before freshers and still seem to have Gollum lodging in my chest cavity and quite frankly, I'm sick of it. I'm capable of going about my day just fine {I mean, as fine as can be expected of a student}, but I'm yet to be able to tell if I'll ever get rid of this niggly feeling of "yuck" or if coming to university has doomed me to a fate of sub par health for the next 3 years.

I'm sure I'll find out.

Anyway, it's not all doom and gloom {that's right, kids- grab a seat 'cause she's not complaining for once} as it just so happens that uni has introduced me to the loveliest bunch of coconuts imaginable. From housemates, to course mates, to random people who've helped me get something off the top shelf at the shop, I've been made to feel welcome and I've been introduced to so many people that the customary "I know you, but don't know you, I was probably drunk when I met you" nod has become part of my daily routine- and I couldn't be more chuffed.

Moreover, my flatmates are fab {even if a certain someone screaming at Fifa has become the soundtrack to my life} and I'm very glad they're here too because if it weren't for them I wouldn't have settled into uni life anywhere near as well as I have done.

In fact, there are countless people that have contributed to making my time in Cardiff so far pretty darn good.

So {Disclaimer: to avoid the Oscars-esque speech and to save yourselves from even more sentimental rubbish please jump forward a few lines}, a huge thank you {told you so- if you came this far it's your own fault} to everyone I've met over the past month. Whether you taught me how to make a banging vegan curry; had drunk chats with me in the early hours; let me steal your trousers on that one night out when I'd convinced myself I didn't look good in anything in my wardrobe; sent me cookies when I was ill; or simply made me laugh at some point over the last month. You've all made this first month a whole lot better than my last first month- and that means more to me than I expected it would.

As if that's not enough, I absolutely love my course. I feel challenged, intrigued, and I don't mind that I'm confused 90% of the time. It's such a massive turnaround from my experience last year that whether it's Wada tests {yes, that's a real word}; villanelles; or voiced alveolar lateral approximants {and yes, I'm just using these examples to show you all that I have actually learnt something- despite the fact that I'm avoiding planning for my midterms by writing this instead} I'm genuinely excited for what's to come.

Right, that's enough of that {please expect my usual complaint riddled rambles to return very soon}.

So, to avoid more heartfelt nonsense, I'll cut this off here with a huge wave to everyone back home and an even huger hug for my dog.

See you soon baboons x
